Novena to the Holy Spirit for Pentecost
Starts May 25th  for 9 Days

Note from Fr. Edwin:

God is love

Love originates in God, for God is love; His very nature is love.  Love makes us one with Him and others.  It is a gift that we must accept gratefully.  When we love god we love our neighbours too. Thus the love of the neighbour becomes a characteristic feature of the love of the God So he says: “What I command you is to love one another.” (Jn 15:17)

Love that comes from God must enable man to love and enable him to abide in it throughout his live.  We have to bear rich fruit that will last (Jn. 15:14,16).  That means we have to do our duties and live in this world in such a way that everything we do should be the outcome of love.  Our actions must manifest God’s infinite love for us.  Love should be a criterion of our deeds.  The gospel tells us to love God with all our heart and soul (Mt. 22:37,38).  That is, we have to respond to the inner promptings of God. For that we have to perform works of love persistently.  God’s work must be our life’s work.  We must persevere in doing good unto the end (Mt. 24:13).

Jesus’ love is an abiding love.  It is unconditional.  An unconditional love demands unconditional response.  What is the quality of our love for Jesus and for our neighbour?

Abiding Love

Let us remember:

  • God loves us; we should be happy for we are loved.
  • God wants us to love one another:  Our life must be a demonstration of love Jesus showed us.
  • God is love; we have to be heralds of His love in the world; we have to love our brother because God loves him.

God has loved us with an eternal love.  To be God’s children we have to abide by that love.  Then God’s joy will be in us, and our joy will be complete (Jn. 15:11).
